MOURNING THE QUEEN

CHURCHES across Scotland mourned the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and took part in the accession of King Charles III.

Bells tolled at many Church of Scotland churches and the national anthem was sung at the two Sunday services between the Queen’s death on September 8 and her funeral on September 19.

Many churches also opened their doors for private prayer, and many screened the broadcasts of the Service of Thanksgiving at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh on September 12, and the funeral itself.

At Edinburgh: St Margaret’s, candles in the shape of the letters ‘ER’ were lit next to an image of the Queen
At Stepps Parish Church in Glasgow, the flowers from the morning service were laid at the local war memorial.
Members of the junior section of the Boys Brigade at Wishaw Old have designed a display of Queen’s stamps, corgis and royal standards and crowns with pride of place going to a letter of thanks from the Queen for cards celebrating her Platinum Jubilee.
