RELIGION IN THE LANDS THAT BECAME AMERICA

A New History

Published by: Yale University Press

Written by: Thomas A Tweed

Price £18.00

Published later this month, this hardback offers a fresh retelling of the history of religion in America in a journey from the Ice Age to the 21st century – the ‘Information Age’.

The book sets aside the often retold story that implies American religious history only started with the arrival of English settlers in Jamestown or Plymouth.

Instead the author returns to 11,000 years earlier and begins at a rock shelter in present day Texas and follows the journeys of Indigenous People, African American and the many migrants and people of faith who helped to shape the America of today.

The author offers a focus on how religion influenced the events which shaped America, from the medieval Cornfield Crisis to the modern Industrial Crisis, showing how religious influences shaped the history of one of the most powerful nations in the world today.
