‘Future of the Church’
What an uplifting article written by eight-year-old Martha Mary Cook in the March edition of Life and Work. It oozed with joy, clearly reflecting her own delight at being involved in the Christmas activities in Jedburgh and Oxnam Parish Church.
It was not only a pleasure, but a nice change to read about someone young in the church. Worthy as they are, the stories and pictures of the older generation (like me!) receiving long service medals, running coffee mornings and other achievements are never going to attract our young folks to read this magazine.
If the young ones cannot find much to write about, then that is a sad reflection of what we are offering them.
So well done to Martha Mary! Let’s hear lots more of what she and other young ones enjoy. They, after all, are the future of the church and we need to make space for them and encourage them on their journey of faith.
