ECHOES OF CELTIC CHRISTIANITY
A Personal Journey Written by: Timothy M Pitt Published by: Handsel Press Price: £10.00
This is a beautiful hardback that would not be out of place on a coffee table, bringing together a fusion of elegant writing with beautiful photography, thanks to the images created by retired minister and theology lecturer, Graeme Clark.
The images enhance the reader experience of this book which weaves together personal memories with historical fact, thanks to the meticulous research conducted by the author, a lawyer with a special interest in the world of Celtic Scotland and, in particular, Celtic Christianity, which he believes has shaped his own faith journey.
The book is essentially a love letter to that interest, guiding readers around Scotland to the many sites of Celtic spiritual influence, including the islands of Iona and Incholm (in the Firth of Forth) and Sannox (on the isle of Arran).
There is also an exploration of some of the Celtic saints including Ninian, Serf, Columba and Aiden and reflections on contemplation, prayer, blessings and creativity.
With barely 70 pages the book can be hungrily devoured at a single session, or enjoyed at leisure with opportunities to reflect upon the beautiful and highly pertinent images liberally peppered through the book.
