My church
Kirsty Thomson highlights the value of the work of Edinburgh: Holy Trinity in her life.
IN every area of my life, my church has, both in the past and currently, supported me as a wife, mother, woman, and friend.
I began attending Holy Trinity in 2002, making it my church for over 20 years. Prior to Holy Trinity, I spent over two decades at Wester Hailes Baptist Church, another church in Wester Hailes that positively impacted my life.
Holy Trinity has been instrumental in various aspects of my life. As a young mum, they supported me and other women in creating a community that aided us in our mothering journey. We initiated the first MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) group in Scotland in 2006, and the friendships from that time are still going strong today!
During a period of depression, I used the Bridge Counselling Service, a much-needed resource in the church. My husband and I participated in, and later led, a course at Holy Trinity called LAM (Love After Marriage).
My children have received love, care, and nurturing through different sections of the children’s and youth work, from the crèche to youth fellowships. I currently contribute to supporting the younger youth work.
In Holy Trinity, I organise a House Group – a gathering of 12 adults that meets twice a month. Our House Group partakes in a monthly prayer walk, circling locations such as Wester Hailes, Edinburgh Castle, and different spots in the city.
Last summer, I travelled to Rwanda with seven others from the church, including my daughter. Holy Trinity has had a developing mission partnership with the Living Church in Rwanda for over a decade. Our focus last year was fundraising for a second-hand vehicle to support the community, reaching just over £13,000 in over nine months.

The vehicle is a lifeline for the Living Church community, spanning 25 churches, ensuring the continuity of their impactful work in schools, microfinance projects, training centres, street children initiatives, and healing and reconciliation efforts. Your contribution to reaching our target would be greatly appreciated.
I participate in an accountability prayer triplet with two other ladies from church. We meet for an hour weekly, asking challenging and probing questions, encouraging and spurring each other on to be all that Christ has called us to be.
I have cherished the youth and church weekend getaways over the years, valuing the time to learn from my church family.
Holy Trinity is a church that rolls up its sleeves and extends help, not only to me and my family but also to those outside the church community.
