First Minister praises faith communities

The First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf, has praised the hard work, creativity and unity of Scotland’s faith communities.

In a message recorded for Scottish Interfaith Week (November 12-19), Mr Yousaf said that ‘Scotland has one of the strongest interfaith traditions in the world’ and called on them to ‘continue to build ever closer communities together’.

“In Scotland our faith communities welcome each other into their places of worship.

Our communities share food, song and prayer with one another,”

Mr Yousaf said. “We have pioneered what it means to live in solidarity. Solidarity that goes far beyond tolerance.

Crucially, it embraces love.”

He added that the programme of events in Interfaith Week, which included a tour of local places of worship in Glasgow and online events tackling loneliness, seeking climate justice, and exploring spiritual community, ‘speak to the hard work, creativity and unity of faith communities across Scotland’.
