WCC marks 75th anniversary
The World Council of Churches (WCC) is celebrating its 75th anniversary in multiple ways, starting in June and ending in December 2023, with a focus on promoting understanding and co-operation among Christians worldwide.
The WCC says the anniversary will be ‘a stepping stone toward the future, representing an opportunity to share what the WCC offers spiritually as an organisation to future generations’.
They aim ‘to inspire younger generations to become involved in the ecumenical movement; to raise awareness of current challenges and key examples of past activities that speak to the present challenges; and to inspire member churches and the wider fellowship to share their perspective about the ecumenical journey’.
In a report to the WCC Executive Committee, general secretary the Rev Prof Dr Jerry Pillay said: “We recognise with joy and thanksgiving our member churches and ecumenical partners who have remained faithful and committed to the WCC over these past years.”
