YOUNG AUDLT VOLUNTEER

Explore, Enjoy, Engage – Opportunities for young people and young adults in the life of our Church

In December we launched a new Young Adult Volunteering (YAV) programme – YAV Scotland. In conjunction with the Presbyterian Church USA we offered funded places on the programme 2023-2024. These places will take young people from Scotland to volunteer placements in the USA. By the end of February all the spaces had been filled and we invited five young adults to be part of the YAV Scotland team. This experience is set to be lifechanging for all involved and complements the existing YAV programme in Scotland, currently based in Dundee, where four young adults from the USA spend 11 months supporting Priority Area congregations.

We will keep the @YAVScotland Instagram updated with developments and about the participants progress and would love it if you followed their journey with us.

Young Adult Volunteering sits within our Mission Support programme and offers participants the opportunity to get involved in something new, experience different places and cultures, develop new skills, meet new people and, equally important, to have fun! We want be able to offer similar experiences to as many young people and young adults as possible, so are exploring ways to increase the options available over the next year.

With that in mind, we will be hosting a Church of Scotland ‘village’ within the camp site of Magnitude Christian youth festival this July (https://magnitude.org.uk). Church youth groups who sign up to attend the festival can join together with other Church of Scotland groups to get to know one another and share resources. We will provide catering, have a large marquee for groups to eat and socialise together in, as well as organising activities that will encourage conversation, friendship and fun. All for just £30 on top of the festival cost.

Please contact me (Pam.Mellstrom@ churchofscotland.org.uk) or Suzi Farrant (sfarrant@churchofscotland.org.uk) for more information about joining us at Magnitude.
