MINISTERS LEAD PHILATELY SOCIETY
Two retired Church of Scotland ministers with nearly 81 years in the ordained ministry between them are currently leading the umbrella body for Scotland’s stamp collectors. The Revs Colin Caskie and Douglas Irving have been Associate Presidents of the Association of Scottish Philatelic Societies (ASPS) since April 2019, with alternating years as presidents.
They are pictured together in Kirkcudbright in February 2020, before the Covid-19 lockdown, when Colin, as then ASPS President, showed three philatelic displays. Douglas described the two of them on the night as the ‘Reverends Little and Large’
Although the pandemic has forced the cancellation of the last two ASPS annual congresses, the organisation is currently hosting an online ‘congress’ at www. scottishphilately.co.uk. The exhibition, which will be online until August 15, features over 80 displays from 24 Scottish societies, submitted by stamp and postcard collectors from all over Scotland, as well as some from south of the Border courtesy of the Association of British Philatelic Societies.
