SOUP STOP REWARDED
Bourock Church Soup Stop was named the runner-up in the “Impact In The Community” award at the All About Barrhead Awards in March. The group has been running for almost 12 years, serving cheap lunches to the community and raising over £100,000 for local and national charities over the years.
Linda Dye, session clerk of the church, said: “Many of our customers live alone, and as well as enjoying the lunch they really appreciate eating together. Every Friday is busy, with a great feeling of fellowship in the church hall. We give money to our own church every month and donate to lots of different charities. We choose a different charity every month, and the customers always know what they are supporting. We donate to the CoS HIV Programme, Adams House, Breast Cancer Care, Macmillan Nurses and Diabetes UK every year, and lots of other local and national charities as a ‘one off’. Soup Stop gave the first £1000 to start off the fund to purchase defibulaters for Barrhead.
“Since we started we have raised over £105,000 which we can hardly believe ourselves! Being runners up for the ‘Impact on the Community’ Award in Barrhead meant a great deal to us, all as we consider our outreach to the community to be the most important part of our work.”
