PRAYER

Lord, let me be at least, a little foolish on this Lenten journey.

As I examine my relationship with You, others and the world grant me courage to be considered ridiculous, simple minded even, that I may draw closer to You.

Help me to give up all that separates us: possessions I do not need, hours that are not well wasted, missed moments to befriend a stranger, prayers from head instead of heart, times when I have done unto others as I would not wish done unto me.

Hear my plea for forgiveness, Lord. Fill me with Your foolish faith that I may love You with all my being. Put the towel and basin in my hands that I may love my neighbour as myself.

Then as together we stumble foolishly, let me take up Your Cross to carry at least, a little of its bearing alongside today’s: refugees, homeless, impoverished, friendless, oppressed and war wounded; alongside all the labelled and the labellers, for whom and to whom You give Your life.

How delicious, Lord, how truly glorious, that Easter should dawn on All Fools’ Day! What a way to remind us how You fooled all the haters and disbelievers, conquering death, raising Jesus to life and off ering us the sure and certain hope of life eternal.

Make me worthy, Lord, to be in Your company of fools that I may dance and sing, not a little, but a lot, with the whole company of heaven and all Your jesters here on earth. Make me childlike enough, Lord to live Your Easter Kingdom now.
