WE’LL SAY THE BLESSING
Written by: Catriona Monro
Price: £8.99 (with £1.75 p&p from Yeadon Bookshop, Elgin and a number of small independent booksellers)
This charming book, by a daughter of the manse, has been a labour of love from start to finish.
The author’s father was the Rev Ronald Torrie, who spent the last 30 years of his ministry in Birnie, linked with New Elgin.
It was during this ministry that her mother Elizabeth (‘Libby’) gathered together a series of graces and prayers, mainly collected and used or written by Ronald. Following her death in 2009, Catriona – one of the couple’s five children – approached a publisher friend to publish the graces and it was suggested that she expand the work.
Expansion has come in the shape of graces from a number of sources, including Church of Scotland ministers.
The result is a lovely coffee table style book that can be picked up and put down at leisure, complete with beautiful illustrations and graces, but with the influences of the Church of Scotland firmly to the fore.
All proceeds from the sale of the book go to Pluscarden Abbey.
