150 YEARS

A special morning service was held in Kelso North Parish Church on Sunday December 11, in celebration of 150 years since the church was built in 1866.

The service, conducted by the Rev Anna Rodwell, included two of the hymns sung in 1866 and again in 1966 when the congregation celebrated the church’s centenary. On the communion table, a heavy King James’ Bible, loaned by a member, had pride of place and the readings were taken from it.

Victorian costumes were worn by the welcome team and choir members, and extra shawls were snapped up by ladies as they hurried into church.

Two young members of the Spirals youth group, Rebecca Hastings and Struan Henderson, were on hand to lower into a floor cavity a sealed time capsule containing a message from the minister, several documents, three recent editions of the church magazine, photographs of the church interior and recent anniversary exhibition, and 2015 and 2016 coins.
